William Ackworth of West New Castle, aged 29 years, employed as yard foreman and conductor on the P. & W. R. R. in this city, met with a fatal accident near New Castle Junction Saturday afternoon. A brake wheel which he was operating came off and he was thrown under a moving train. Seven cars passed over him, mangling his body in a terrible manner. The deceased left a young wife and a daughter about two years old. Coroner Pollock held an inquest, the following being jurors; Daniel Bitner, L. D. Shaffer, William Crowe, A. E. Hartman, J. B. Gemmill and W. W. Woods. A verdict of accidental death was rendered. Ackworth was a member of the J?? O. of U. A. M., and that organization attended his funeral in body. Ackworth was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Brakeman and had his life insured for $2000.
Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery
